blood python im getting, looks rare in a way

karizmaflip Apr 02, 2004 11:39 AM

I am going to get a blood python at my local pet store. it is a young one and is a creamy color and his eyes match his skin. really neat looking so i thought i would write to see if they were all like that because i was looking at pictures of them and none of their eyes are like his. (or hers) also they are asking 275.00 for it, is that a normal price or will i be overpaying? thanks so much!

Hey,
Bloods are as variable as the weather, so that there is no way of saying what is normal with these guys. In truth there are Red bloods that are as red as blood, hence the name, and then there are some that are as you described, light with light colored eyes; blonds or golds to tan and even brown. I guess that is the beauty of these animals, the fact that there can be some interesting variations within the same litter or clutch.

P.S. see if they would let you photograph it first before the purchase, and then post it here. It's a long shot, but might help.

seeing as Angel took pretty good care of your first question i'm not really going to touch on that too much, but in response to the price, i'd say that 275 is pretty fair as far as pet store pricing goes. I work at a relatively large petstore in the midwest and we've got two baby bloods that are priced at 279.99. i would say that on average you're going to be paying about that much in a store, and even getting them online when you add in shipping and microchipping(if you so choose) you're not looking at a very large difference in most cases. and at the same time, there's the added benefit of being able to handle and see the snake right in front of you before purchase. any more questions, lemme know.

i duno, i guess that is a fair price considering that someone just said there pet store was elling them for 279.99 but im in california and at my local petstore they were selling a sumatran red blood that was about 2 years old, he is bright red and they were slling him for 149.00 ! i was about to buy him but my teacher at my high school bought him and hes now in a classroom at my school but back to the price lol, i guess 279 might be fair but it seems kind of over priced. you can buy a blood on here for about 110 shipped! thats how much i bought my 03 girl for and my baby male sumatran black blood only cost me 185.00 and he is pretty rare because he doesnt have an orange head or a black head, he has a silver/very light grey head and a jet black body with some silver markings! he has a very unique look to him like you said the blood you want to buy has a unique look so i think 275-279 may be over priced considering what other rare and unique bloods you can find for the same price or lower but thats just my opinion

Ok well i did my research and 275 for this snake is ok. i seen somewhat different price ranges but only by a few dollars. So i am picking him up tommorrow. i will post pictures if thats ok. he really is beautiful but hey- what snake isnt lol. have a good easter everyone!

my local petshop has them for $150, however, when I went to a show I could handle them get care sheets have them sexed and all for $75.

I think that show has ruined me for petshop prices. IE what I paid for my balls in a petshop = $75 a piece... at the show = $15-35 CB...

seems prices all depend on where you go.

I belive 275 is fair on account of- 1. i get a cage with him, 2. a hide, 3. HE was sexed, and 4.he is GORGEOUS and i would pay 375 for him. i bought my baby ball at a petshop and he was 45 dollars but he is priceless to me. i got my burmese python at 6 months old for 30 dollars-again priceless to me, and finally my red tail boa for 50 bucks as i said before- priceless. here is my red tail...just so you all can see what i got for 50 bucks lol. i really do appreciate your honesty on the subject too. please dont think of me being a smart a** i really wasnt trying to be.
