after they are mature, yes you can feel for the "BB" on males. It;s like a little pimple at the base of the tail on both sides of the vent. Short of that, probing is the only sure way.

Is probing tegus like probing snakes? What lengths are we talking and at what cage can this be done??

just like a snake. Wait till they are a month old. Females will barely go in at all.

I'll be trying that. Better than waiting for it to mature and knowing then. Not that it really matters.
