Have a sick snake. Need some help fast!!

beckman77 Apr 02, 2004 12:44 PM

I have raised snakes now for about 8 years. I have never run into this problem before. Last Sept, I bought an albino Burmese from a guy that didn’t know what he had. The snake was about 4 to 4 ½ long and very skinny. The guy told me that he was having problems with the snake eating, which I couldn't believe. When I got the snake home, I cleaned it very well and did some work on the cage. The snake started eating like a true Burmese. Here about 6 weeks ago, she just stopped. Nothing has changed. She kills the mice quick, but will not eat them. I have tried about everything that I can think of. I have left her alone to eat for hours, but she will not eat the mice. The only thing that I can think of is that she doesn’t like the mice that I received in this last batch. She will kill every mouse that I give her, but will not eat them. She has lost some weight and she is starting to get skinny again.
Please, if you have any suggestions, please feel free to give them to me.
Thanks
Aaron

4 1/2 feet and still on mice? mine is the same size and is on medium rats. oh my mistake im sorry i remember you saying it was under weight. i would call a veterinarian that specializes (spelling?) in reptiles around your area. for a burmese not to eat is strange. they sure are pigs lol i hope everything goes well for your snake. keep the progress posted thanks

Try a rat, gerbil or chick. I would do the chick lastly because some snakes become fowl dependant and that can become a little difficult to obtain all year round. Hope this helps, Todd
