12 years old RES refuse to eat!! discolorated poop!

cornsnake234 Apr 02, 2004 12:47 PM

I have my RES sine 12 years and i never have had any problem to feed her!! Normaly she wakes up at 6 a.m. and makes a lot of noise to tell me that she's ready to eat. Since few weeks, she just climb in her basking area and don't seem to care if i will feed her or not. She refuse her normal food (reptile sticks, shrimps), she just wanna eat fresh fish, meat and cheese, no veggies nothing else. Her poops are white or yellowish sometimes pink and very mucous. I'm gonna call the vet this afternoon, i'm very worried about her so if anyone can help me i would appreciate it!

thanks

Last summer i have had a problem with my RES eating rocks, so i remove them and she was doing fine. I came read in the forum and someone was telling to give cuttlebone to turtle that eats rocks beacause it could be a need of calcium. I do so and she was okay, i don't know what is going wrong. The water quality is perfect, i feed her in a separeted tank, i change a minimum of water every 3 days...

Plz help me...

She is defecating so an obstruction can be pretty much be ruled out. Get her to a vet ASAP!! Could be kidney failure, bacterial infection or any of a host of other things. The two colors of fece you describe are clear signs of serious problems.
Good luck and one suggestion..... please refrain from feeding cheese to your turtle it is not something they can properly digest and really not healthy for them.
