Hairless Rat and Bedding...

uf_g8or Apr 02, 2004 06:21 PM

I just acquired a male hairless rat to add to my breeders. I use aspen wood in the rat racks and have never had any problems with it. I looked in on him last night and his eyes are somewhat swollen and red. It doesn't look serious though just a little irritated and he's acting fine. Is he just getting used to his new surroundings or should I use a different bedding? All my rats (200+) are on aspen and are fine.

Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

They will be symptomatic before any others. It may be a problem for you. It may clear up when the stress lowers, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Haven't we warned you about tampering with the structure of a chaotic system?

I FOUND SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE SHAVINGS. I SWITCHED SOME OVER TO USED OR RECYLED NEWSPAPER AND IT SEEMS TO BE BETTER. I WAS JUST USING REGULAR HORSE SHAVINGS BEFORE AND I NOTICED SOME ITCHING?
