stenodactylus egg is fertile! (Now what do I do?)

draggintails Apr 02, 2004 07:12 PM

Hi there!
I have a trio of mini dune geckos, and a female laid an egg 2 weeks ago. It's the first of 3 I've been able to save and she lays one about every month. I broke #1 and #2 molded. (I was told to mist but now I don't) Last night I held the container up outside and noticed a red line from the yolk and a tiny red blip (a heartbeat!)

My questions are:
Is it ok for the embryo to be stuck up to the side?

Also, I've been peeking in every so often and keeping it (informally I know) on top of the viv by a che in vermiculite in tupperware with the lid offset... It is 'supposed' to be kept at 82-84? It sometimes gets a tad hotter according to my temp gun. But now that I know there is life-

Should I not disturb it and just say what's working is working, or do you think the temp will become more critical as it matures? (It seems crazy to get a huge hovabator for one pea sized egg a month!)

Thanks for any input!
Nomi
