Amaretta is a 10 1/2 month old Female I have. She's been fine till maybe a week and a half - 2 weeks ago. She started this hacking noise. Kinda sounds like you clearing flem from your throat. got so loud at times that I heard her down stairs and in other rooms! Well, Took her and a fecal from her to the vet this past Monday. Listened to her chest, felt her tummy, did his exam. Nada, nothing, zip. Can't find a thing wrong with her. Actually commented on what good condition she's in. Of course, She didn't make the noise for him. Little wench. Anyhow, We took her off wheat bran and put her on paper towels thinking maybe SHe got some caught in her throat or maybe she was allergic to it or something stupid like that. It hasn't stopped! So I'm gonna call him again tomorrow and see if I can't get chest x-rays on her. Any ideas???? Anyone else ever heard their beardie do this??? Is it a "behavior" or a problem??? What's the deal guys?????

like clearing their throat is when they have an URI and the vet should be able to see that in their throat and nasal passage.

I would think that bran dust could cause it too, or at least the mold that bran can harbor too, but again, the vet should be seeing that in an exam.

My dragon has giardia and he doesn't cough. I've never heard of that being a symptom.

they would have found giardia in the fecal. So that rules that out.

My little lady lost her battle with it. It sounded like she was coughing with fluid in her throat. It wasn't ri, but i sure thought it was. Same symptoms though, cough/gargle noise that i could hear all the way down stairs.

I hate to say it, but I'd find another vet. Not all vets are experienced enough with beardies to really know what to prescribe. I have one in my area that claimed a beardie had fatty liver disease only because it had a light yellow color to the skin. This was a color morph beardie that was suppose to be yellow. He prescribed amoxicillin and the beardie died.
