MY GECKO IS GOING TO DIE! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

maddpizza Apr 02, 2004 11:46 PM

I am SO worried about my Gecko! He is not eating (hasnt eatin in over a week), and his poop is liquid with a vague white thing (i am talking pure liquid, barely makes a stain on the paper towel) Maybe he is not pooping because he is not eating??? Does he have an infection????

Information about him: I feed him crickets everyday (he's a juvinille), and his tank is heated by a lamp, it stays about 85 hotside/high70's coldside, at night its about high60's,low70's....it use to be a lot hotter, but we thought that it was too hot and thats why he wasnt eating (it use to be like high 90's)

what should i do???
PLEASE HELP!

A HEALTHY adult can go awile without eating.
Not a sick, thin, or young gecko.
If the gecko is haveing watery stools there is likly an internal problem.
A vet needs to be seen to diagnose your geckos problem.

A gecko that is having liquid poops and isnt eating is sick. Take him to the vet ASAP.

He is in part doing his research by talking to people on this forum. I don't see the need to jump down the guy's throat. Atleast he cares about his leo and is trying. Gotta give 'em that much.

But epreptile, who gave the "dw about it" answer.

I'm assuming "dw" stands for don't worry??? Not sure I like that.. Those are my initials!!!!

First of all, the pure white stuff you are seeing in your gecko's poop is most likely urates, which is basically solid urine. This is a good thing, because it means your gecko is at least somewhat hydrated. The temperature on the warm side should be up around 90 - 92 degrees, and a warmer belly for your little one might help some.

But basically, Sarah is correct about juvenile leos... they need to eat every day, and diarrhea like that is a major indicator that there is disease present. Please take this baby to a vet ASAP for a fecal test in order to properly diagnose the problem and get it treated before it's too late.. In the meantime, you can dropper-feed (do not force feed) some baby food squash, which is a great carbohydrate and tends to bind in the intestines.

If you would like some help finding a herp vet in your area, please email me and I can help you. I also have a recipe for a great dropper food that has saved many sick rescues from starving to death while they were being treated for parasitic infections.
