savanna monitor shedding probs

bob_the_snowman Jun 13, 2003 01:57 AM

hey,i purchased a savanna about 4 months ago(he's grown like a weed since then,he's more then doubled in size, and is prob a lil over 1 and a half feet now!)but the problem is he sits under his log,and never comes out,i may be lucky to see him come out once within the span of two weeks,he's only active when food is involved,he appears to have problem sheds, they never seem to end,he never soaks in the water bowl i bought him,and his feces smells horrible and is often runny, most of the time he's cranky,lol...i've gotten more then a few "love bites"but every now and then he surpises me,he likes to be petted on the side of his head and often closes his head towards my finger(lol...kinda cute)but when it comes to picking him up,that when bad things happen, anyway does anyone have any idea as to what might be wrong with my sav, thanks any advise would be greatly appricated!!!

First,I would recommend a visit to a Vet or at least a fecal exam by one. What are your temps?Sounds like they are too low(inactive). What are you feeding it to cause runny stools? If on a proper diet, then have it checked for parasites.Just my thoughts.

I dont remember to have ever seen this question asked before. Also, does it vary from species to species?
This should stir some interesting conversation.(hope nobodies having breakfast

Solid brown logs and eggyolk like white(aka Bird poop)and liquid watery clear(or cloudy). How's that for breakfast conversation.

You said the sheds never seem to end. That's not a problem if the old ones are coming off.My Blackthroat is in a continuous shed at 15 months old.It means that it is growing fast.
