Color variants in ALBINO RETICS questions..

Damon Apr 03, 2004 08:12 AM

Hey guys kinda new to this forum. I always hang and post in the Ball Python forum..

I have a question about ALBINO RETICS. I love all the color phases, including the purple phase, lavender phase and the white phase.

If you were to breed white phase X white phase, do you get all white phase?

What about white phase male to lavender female? Could you produce all 3-color variants from this kind of breeding?

Or what about purple phase X purple phase?

I've been pondering the idea of 1.2 albino retics for around 8 years now.

I used to have burmese pythons, all raised from hatchlings. I know retics are much different. The albino morph of these snakes are just so beautiful.

Also are ADULT retics as prone to RI infections as adult BURMS?

Most important, do retics make the switch from rats to rabbits without to many problems?

I remember I raised an albino labyrinth female burmese from a hatchling. When she hit 80lbs 8-feet, I tried everything to get her on to rabbits, and NO MATTER what I did I failed. I had a snake that was eating 10 thawed rats a sitting!

Really thinking a LOT about a 1.2 trio of albino retics. Getting tired of the ball python scene. Thinking of selling MOST of my ball python collection mainly because of lack of interest in this species.

All color phases can be produced from any combination, supposedly. This year will be my first year to produce albinos and tiger albinos, but the guy I bought my albinos from said that all phases were produced from one phase. I think it is just likely ratios that are mostly unknown at this time. Like white phase to lavender phase *may* produce much fewer purple phases and ect. But we should know this year as there are a number of albino to albino breedings going on. If you have any other questions about the albino retics feel free to email me at BrianSmithReptiles@hotmail.com and I'll be happy to chit chat with you.

No, retics are not as prone to RI as burms are, and they tend to bounce back better when they do.

And no, it usually is not very hard to switch them over to rabbits when the time comes. But also, it is VERY easy to trick them with rat-scenting the rabbits if they are problematic feeders.
