a supplement question

meretseger Apr 03, 2004 08:44 AM

What do you guys think of the T-Rex veggie completion formula iguana supplement? We got a sample of it at the pet store I work at was curious if it's good, since the T-rex gecko foods are very good.
(we're trying to avoid stocking iguanas at the pet store, but due to a long story we're going to end up with at least 2 to care for in the near future.)

I personally bought some recently for my Ig as well as my Uro's. After looking into alot of the ingredients, it seems to be a good suppliment for them.

However, even tho it says you can put it on lettuce and they will still get enough nutrients, I feel that is not the thing to say because then someone may go out and start feeding the ig lettuce withOUT the suppliment thinking its still ok.

I feel, since it hasn't been tested long term, that you still should give a variety of greens along with it just to be safe. Different people put different amounts on salads so who's to say which pets are getting "enough" of it and who's not?

That was my line of thinking, that you couldn't put it on iceberg and be ok but that it would help make up for any unintentional deficiencies. BUT... I wonder if you have to worry about oversupplementation using it with certain salads? I don't know, I'm obviously a newbie and although I've read a lot about reptile nutrition it's all very confusing and there seems to be a lack of actual data in the area.
I was thinking about trying to talk the store into carrying a T-rex line but I really don't know if it would sell. I don't want to describe our average reptile customer as 'cheap', but... um... ok, they're cheap.

I agree with you too...how much is too much??? Exactly my point. I too agree that no enough has been done to get an exact for reptile needs which is why else i wonder how T-Rex has come up with the "ultimate" solution? (nothing against them...use lots of their products) just wonder....what made them the expert all of a sudden as to the exact needs??

But anyhow, I'm curious to see how it works on my new ornates uros. One in particular is the one that I got the suppliment for to see if it helps to clear up her bumpy spine. Meanwhile, waiting to see if my iggy does any better/worse on hers.
We shall see
