feel dumb asking but...

what is this pet counting system?
ex. 1.1 eastern
0.2 ornate
2.1 ect.
I dont understand where the decimals come into play. I always thought if you had one turtle then its 1 or if you have 4 turtles you have 4.
Im confused. Please help me out.

Not a dumb question at all.
Its used to indicate the number of males, females, and (in some cases) juveniles (presumably of undetermined gender) of a given species that someone has in their posession.

so the first number is males - 1.0
the second number is females - 0.1
and undeterminded juv is - 0.0.1
????

1.2.3 is one male, 2 females and 3 unsexed.
