I can't feel any eggs.....

Passport Apr 03, 2004 02:01 PM

She is ready to shed her pre-lay. I held her this morning and she is just HUGH. However, I can't feel any hard round eggs in her. She stopped eating two weeks ago and is refusing all food. Should I be able to feel them inside her? Or because she is so large, girth and age, that it would take an expert to palpate her? I know that most of you would be able to look at her and tell, or could you?

They eggs are soft so they arent gonna feel real pronounced or hard. Also with heavier females you can feel them even less.

I didn't think I could feel the eggs either. I let one of my cal kings climb over my hand to crawl back into her cage, and as she passed over, after a while, I realized that there was a slight bumpiness. The more she slithered the more pronounced they became, or the more I was able to figure out what I was feeling, and by this point I counted 8 big lumps and one small lump, though I think there were more before I "got the hang of it".

Let the snake get RELAXED.Too often when they arent handled much anyway they are rigid and not used to being handled.....and tense up so that palpating is tougher.Try it several times and keep her warm and calm and she will usually relax enough to count eggs.Good Going Sasheena!Jeff

It's not the norm, but sometimes the eggs are sheathed in so much surrounding tissue they can be hard to distinguish.

I'm wondering how large the eggs will be. Can you tell I am excited by the prospect of getting eggs from the most beautiful couple of Brooksi I've ever seen? Male is lavender and the female is het-lavender. She is dark phase and gorgeous. The best tempered snakes ever. Even ready to shed the female is gentle and sweet. And of course the 6ft, 9yr old male is a show stopper. I can't wait to post that the eggs are laid and in the incubator.
