Buttermilk Racer, Coluber constrictor anthicus

Plindsey Apr 03, 2004 03:24 PM

Here are a couple of pics of a nice looking female Buttermilk that we found this morning under tin near Monroe, LA. Hopefully, she will be a good addition to my breeding group.

Wow! Great find! How long is she? How many are in your group? What is their prefered food item? I am just curious because I have a juvenile that prefers to eat only crickets.

This one is probably about 90 cm. I have 4.2 now all of which eat mice or rat pups. In the wild they eat a lot of insects such as big grasshoppers and so forth as well as rodents, lizards, frogs, and nearly anything else they catch. Looking at stomach contents they nearly all have insect remains although some of these might be secondary from frogs or lizards. Babies usually take crickets very well as well as anoles or skinks.
