UHH KILLING FOR JOY OR FEEDING PROBLEMS!!!

savvgawd Apr 03, 2004 04:22 PM

Ok, this one ive never seen b4, my new bally who i do believe is pretty stressed because he always strikes at me and hisses and just isnt a happy camper, i went to feed him today and he got the mouse, contricted it, killed it, then slithered off like the mouse wuznt there. So i tried dangling the mouse in front of him, no go, then he began trying to strike at me any time i went near, i decided to just leave the mouse in his tank to see if he eats it since it cant do him harm HELP!! thaaanks

Maybe you're having problems because you're trying to feed a nocturnal snake during the day?

Whats it's setup like?
hot side?
cool side?
How are you measuring the temps?
humidity?
how many hides?
how big a cage?
how big the snake?
Is there a lot of activity in the room it's at?
any chances of other people disturbing the snake?
how about cats or dogs annoying the snake?
how long have you had the snake?
is it a W.C?
Does it have mites?
Whats the substrate like?
Have you tried rats?
How often do you offer food?

If everything is ok I suggest to leave it alone for 2 wks. No handling, just spot clean and give fresh water.
then feed. (if it's a new snake) I say DO NOT handle until it has successfully eaten 4 times in a row, and gone to the bathroom. Take it and get a fecal done.

Good luck

Let him settle in, he's just striking out of stress - to defend himself. Give him a couple of weeks and I bet he'll feed normally.

Good luck, Christy

sometimes my tree boa wont eat his pinkies if they are gone from the cage to long. like the handling makes them loses there smell so they kill it out of defense then dont want to eat it because its doesnt have a tasty scent. but thats is just what I deduced.
