While beardie bites do hurt like the dickins, I've never had anything severe enough to require more than some neosporin and a band-aid.

I have been bitten by a bearded dragon once in all the years I have been working with reptiles. This particular dragons was sick and extremely frightened in a pet store environemnt. It didn't even draw blood. A bite by an adult dragon could probably hurt but they bite so rarely I don't even worry with my kids. I have children under two who I let hold my dragons regularly. (supervised for the dragon's safety) They can be skittish as babies if they are not held a lot but can be easily tamed by holding. I can't think of a better reptile for a 12 year old who wants to hold it than a bearded dragon. Mine will sometimes sit and watch TV with me for hours.

thanks ...when holding a baby...as its baby were getting,,should we hold him tight if hes trying to get away etc...ive noticed alot say holding babys make them tame...im guesing you guys mean if he wriggles etc hold him firm and not let him get away???????

I recommend "controlled" holding. What I mean by that is give it some freedom to move around so it knows you are not a threat but keep it within deined parameters. Like your arms or upper body.

I have been bitten once by a very scared adult Beardie during a Vet exam, I was helping to hold him, and it did not break the skin. Just a pinch that left a bruise. And if I was that Beardie I would have bitten alot harder than that, the Beardie in question had a broken bone. The bone was set though and a full recovery by the beardie resulted.

She was "nipped" on the nose once (no mark) and that is about as aggressive as Drako has been. He is so sweet! He was a gift for her 13th birthday. He was 6 inches and almost 6 weeks old when she got him. He is now 8 months old and is leash trained...he loves to go for walks outside. Drako is perfectly content to sit on my daughters lap and watch TV--he loves Pokemom (DO NOT block his view when he is watching unless you want a FULL dark beard display!) My Daughter has about 90% responsibility for her pet--I help some...too bad my hubby wont let me get one too!
My youngest daughter also loves "Drakie". Here is a picture of her at 20 months "wearing" him (he was 4 months old at the time of picture). Someone on this board has a dragon named "Velcro" a very appropriate name!
