My Veiled Chameleon fell out of a tree, HELP!!!

jrbl Apr 03, 2004 06:34 PM

Hi,
Today was nice and sunny so I did as I often do and let my Male Veiled climb around in a tree in the yard. He was climbing for at least 20 minutes and then he just fell out of the tree. He fell from about 3 feet up. I checked him over for injuries and did not find anything wrong with him. I then let him go back in the tree, big mistake! He climbed to about 5 feet and then he fell agian. I checked him over agian, and he seemed just fine. Does anyone know why he fell? He has had a history of bad eyes(infected) but has seemed just fine for quite some time. Is it some sort of a balance problem? He seems fine, but I am worried. Thanks for the help, Josh

Is he getting proper vitamines and hydration? Does he have different size branches in his cage? does he ever fall in his cage? does he have a nice strong grip?

I'm just taking a few guesses here maybe one will help

he could need better foods or dust.

he could not be use to different tree brance sizes..maybe the branch is to thick for him.

is he leaping off or just falling? something scare him possibly?

He is getting supplementaion that is only a few weeks old. He seems to be getting enough hydration. He only has a couple different sizes of branches in this cage. He seems to have a very strong grip. I am not sure if he falls, but I often see him on the bottom of his cage. I am not sure whether he fell or leaped as I had my back turned. I just heard some leaves rustling and a thump. When I turned around, he was in the grass. I don't think there was anything there to scare him. I am setting up a new cage for him and it is going to have branches with different thicknesses, so maybe he will get used to different thicknesses. Josh

There is a possibility that he might be jumping off to look for freedom or just to go to different tree. My panthers sometimes do this. It shouldn't hurt him just make sure it doesn't happen overly often.
