Help, i have a burn victim!

muskratman Apr 03, 2004 06:41 PM

hi guys,
i am the proud owner of a female veiled chameleon that i call "sassy".
sassy recently burned the tip (like 15millimeters) of her tale on her heat bulb which i had pointed right at her favorite branch, what makes this weird is that the light is a good 3 and a half inches from her cage (which is wire, she cup feeds) the only reason i know she burnt it is cause i saw her tail touching the bulb. i thought that i would just move the light a little and watch her for a day intently to make sure it didn't get infected or anything. well i was watching her today and she bit her tail!
sorry i didn't even search the forums cause i am at work but i would seriously appreciate any input.
thank you!

let me understand...the bulb is 3 1/2" away but her tail touched it? It was sticking thru the wire? (I assume you are using 1/2" hd'we cloth?). When you say she bit her tail - did she bite it or bite at it? Did she recently shed and maybe have some skin still stuck? If you have access to an aloe plant break open a leaf blade and put the "juice" directly on her tail - it's one of the best burn remedies on earth! You can buy one at jsut about any place that sell plants, it's worth having on hand for people, too

Keep an eye on it and if it changes see a vet. I take it you have readjusted the light? Even if you have it a few inches away, if you are using metal wire it will get very hot, too. Touch your hand to it to check. Sorry I can't help any more.
