Anyone else have this problem?

Tarentola Apr 04, 2004 12:27 AM

My 2 foot Colombian red tail Boa always does this. When I feed him is fuzzie he will grab it and when i slowly put th elid back on the cage he will let go of the fuzzie and stare at me.

He is in a ten gallon cage(not for much longer)
Has ate 9 fuzzies in his life and 1 one more fuzzie and he will be eating small adult mice(i feed him once a week)
temp is an average of 85F
has a hide box
has a waterdish big enough for him to soak in

And that sums it up....................why does he do that?

Some of them get distracted very easily. Try dimming your lights in the room. Even if that doesn't work and he still watches you, just cover his tank with a towel for a while until he is finished eating. That way he won't be distracted by other movement in the room.

Just like Linda said.

If you think about where he is at in his life this behavior makes sense.
First, it's a baby. At that point in their life they are very vulnerable to predators. It is their natural instinct to be wary or just about anything.
Second, all snakes are very vulnerable while eating. If the choice is necessary between eating and possibly protecting itself....It will choose to protect itself. (Some boas are a lot more nervious than others. Some don't really care if you watch them or not.)
Hope this helps.
