Strange Cali Kingsnake Breeding Activity -

DanielC Apr 04, 2004 05:39 AM

I brought my pair of cali kings out of brumation around the 20th of Feb.

Both the male and female resumed feeding with insanely huge appetites, and both regained pre-brumation weight quickly.

They were introduced together on the spur of the moment about 7 days after coming out of brumation. They bred almost instantly. I continued to breed the female every 3-4 days with the male until they finally showed total lack of interest in eachother (started to bite eachother and coil instead of lock up)

So my female has NOT shed post brumation, and she just looks HUGE.. shes about 1/2 again as large as she normally is, she shows no signs of wanting to feed. So im pretty confused here as to what is happening.

Is she gravid? Did i screw up by putting them together too early? Could be be gravid and just never had a 'post brumation' shed?... can the post brumation and prelay be one in the same?

Im sorta worried

This is probably her prelay shed. I had a brooks king that bred at the end of Feb. and her first shed was March 19. She had a nice clutch of eggs for me yesterday.
