Bad Egg

merlin7676 Apr 04, 2004 08:38 AM

Well today is beginning of week 3 of my eggs incubation. On friday i noticed the smaller of the two eggs started to collapse and yesterday it had mold on it. So i pulled it out of the incubator and cut it open and there wasn't any yolk, embryo, or anthing..just a thick milky white substance. Was this egg infirtile then? Do they normally take so long to go bad? I was under the impression that if they were infirtile it wouldn't firm up and all? the other egg (larger of the two) still looks good (crosses fingers).
thanks
merlin

Yes, the egg was infertile, and some will go bad soon and some later.

The egg that you cut open was a dud. I've gotten those. Its weird when they are laid and they never show signs of being infertile, but then after you cut them open after their due date there's nothing inside.

An egg is fertile when you can candle it and all you see is red and lots of veins. There is a baby gecko inside.

Although if you dont see that, just hang onto in case, and when the due date is passed and you want to cut it open to see if there was anything then just go ahead and do it.
