I know cresteds change colors as they grow, but are there any tips for guessing their colors as adults by looking at their hatchling/juvenile colors?
The only way to have any idea is by seeing what the parents look like. The only problem there is that if the parents look much different from eachother, you don't really know what the combination will produce in terms of color.
I've had babies that looked good turn into very bland looking juvies and then turn out to be screamer adults. One thing I've learned is to never count one out until it hits sexual maturity. If it's a male, give it a minimum 6-8 months and give females about 10-12 months before you decide they're not what you want.
