Baby Snapper getting Rough

dothedrew2222 Apr 04, 2004 10:22 AM

Hey guys havent posted in a while but my turlte is doing good has grew alot its shell is probably 3inchs and he is starting to get fat. Im wondering if it is common for a baby to get a aggressive i have been feeding he hadent eaten in a while and i put a pen in there and he tried chomping down. Is this mainly becuase he is hungery or what. i took him out today and handled him and he was fine if i keep the handling up every now and then should i be fine with him not biteing me. Thanks how much would it hurt if he did bite me his shell is probably 3inchs. thanks Drew

mine bit me when he was roughly that size. it didn't break the skin but it did pinch and put a mark in the skin. it sure is nothing compared to what a full size snapper can do. as for the aggression, its normal because they are curious and will try to eat anything. mine will attack anything, including me at times in the water. Yet, out of the water, he is the nicest turtle that I own.....go figure.

snapping turtles are fairly docile as hatchlings, but once they've reached their first birthday they become very aggressive, especially males, even more so if you put them into estivation. You can tell if the turtle is male by once you've succeded to piss him off he will open his jaws at you and strech his neck out at you while he sticks his hemapines(male reproductive organ)out at you and then finally pees on you.
