What should I look for when seeing if my mali is underweight or not?

Since no one has responded yet, I'll give it a swing. 
Sometimes they puff themselves up with air as a defensive mechanism. Don't go by if the belly is fat, because it could be a bluff. They should have nice fat tails and cheeks - they should not be bony in the limbs or hips. The picture below is of my Saharan female when I first got her. She was underweight - about 9.5" and 90g. Now she's about 10" and 158g. Saharans have longer tails than Malis and are smaller overall, so don't take those weights as absolutes.
If you don't have a digital gram scale, I highly recommend getting one. Even if your guy is skittish, try to convince him to let you weigh him once every few weeks (more if you think there's been a weight drop). If he is holding steady or gaining, I wouldn't worry.

where can I get a digital scale? because I dont have a scale and it would be nice to get one. As soon as I get paid I will go out and buy one ( i dont get paid until like the 27th of July so....) but if you could tell me where to get one that would be terrific.
