males fighting

Help! I have two male RES about 2 years old, one is much larger than the other. Today the large male was ferociously biting at the neck of the smaller one, who was frantically trying to escape. The smaller one has some scrapes/torn skin at the neck and a little blood. I separated them, but don't know what else to do. They've never fought before. Any ideas? Thanks!
