Goldfish?

aseret Apr 04, 2004 09:44 PM

I am just curious about something, and I cant find anything about it on the web. Do beardies eat fish? Like goldfish or anything? I know that some reptiles can, and I was only curious....

Even for reptiles that eat fish, goldfish are not the best thing for them to eat. I've heard many reasons (chemicals, parasites, too fatty, thiaminase), and although I'm not sure how true they all are, together they paint a pretty good reason not to eat goldies. With other kinds of fish, if you have to do it I'd freeze it first, but keep in mind there's no good reason TO do it, other than you wanting to see the beardie eat fish.
(there's no doubt in my mind the beardie WOULD eat it, mind you)

Too many parasites in goldfish for one thing, but also the SHARP BONES could cause internal injuries/lacerations.

Stick with crickets and fresh veges/fruits. And for a treat, an occasional superworm.
