I have a pair of RES which I believe are a mate-able pair, estimated at 4 years old. They are affectionate tank mates since baby sized. The female appears fat. Bulging out of her shell. I've seen this plenty of times in both of them as they've grown. However, this time she's only bulging from her rear legs and back-end. Obviously, Im assuming she's holding eggs. Sure, it could be illness. But she's been doing fine and acting completely normally... aside from a few days of extra digging, and searching the corners of the tank for that ever-elusive 'secret exit'. So, lets assume she's in good health. I'd like to 'pick some brains' of anyone with RES breeding experience and/or knowledge. For starters, are they old enough? Any stats on egg-cycle frequency, pre-requisites (such as hibernation), suitable laying habitats and techniques (can I just stick her in a sand box for a few hours??). Also, tell me how to post some pics!!!
