First Pacman...a few ?'s

chappylestrange Apr 05, 2004 12:56 AM

Hey everybody. I just bought my first pacman a little under a week ago and just have some questions. He's about 2 inches across, at that size how often should I be offering food? I've been giving him a few crickets every couple days and he eats them but I'm just curious. I've been reading various web pages and books and everyone seems to have conflicting opinions.
Second, is it safe to offer him a superworm at his size?
I have him in a 10 gallon with bed-a-beast, some decorations, a large, shallow water dish and an UTH with a flourescent bulb on top of the tank. The temps are good and holding steady. Does that setup sound ok? Just want to make sure I'm doing things right. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello, I also feed my horned frog crickets every couple of days. I put 2 in there and it will just eat them when it's hungry. You can feed the frog superworms if it's the right size, but be sure not to feed it too much of that because I heard the exoskeleton can cause blockages in the stomach. You may want to use earthworms. And dont forget to dust the foods.

Nice Pac Man. Dont feed him a superworm try mealworms at that size because he probably wont kill the superworm and the worm can eat him from the inside. Try mealworms and an occasional wax worm or pinky. The setup sounds good. Gl hf!

Invertebrates. It shouldn't really be given pinkeys, the are fatty and high in vitamin A. I know that the fat can casue blindness and premature death, but I don't know what effect vitamine A has. About mealworms, just don't feed to many of those. The have an exoskelton that is har to breakdown, and can if fed in larger amounts casue an impaction on your frog. You can also try earthworms and/or nightcrawlers.
Just look abit down on these boards and you'll see there are many threads about feeding your pacman.

That is a rumor, as has been discussed many times over the past while. Andy

I'll hold off on the superworms. Too bad I have so many around...heh. I'll try a few earthworms later on in the week. I'll dust rep-cal once a week and also herptivite. I have these for my dragon, they're ok for the frog? Thanks again.

Sounds good, but you really don't need the undertank heater. They usually burrow to escape the heat coming from above (the sun) and would not encounter heat rising up from the ground. I guess you could put the heater on the upper side of the tank, but I'd rather go with a heat source suchas a heat lamp.

And humans are supposed to be the world's most intelligent, civilized, and refined species, eh? Have you ever been in a crowded discount store?

Thanks. I put the heater on the far right side of the tank. It's keeping it moderately warm there but the left side is cool if he prefers that. I didn't want to put a heat lamp on him because I was afraid it would dry the tank out too much since my house is pretty dry naturally.
