Basking to Much?

little-dipper Apr 05, 2004 12:24 PM

I got a texas map last week, and it basks all the time. Is it possible to bask to much? At night when I turn off the basking lights then it goes in the water, but otherwise it is basking most of the day. Otherwise it looks and sounds healthy, it's not skittish at all. It is even eating out of my hand already.

I am guessing if a "map turtle" is like a RES then it shouldnt be basking ALL the time... though most of my turtles time is spent basking. the only possible reason i can come up for the turtle basking ALL the time is if the water is too cold or too hot. but if your water temp is around 75 and your basking temp is about 85, then i dont see a problem. maybe he just likes to bask. if you have the proper temps, i wouldnt worry if i were you! hope this helps...
