Lizzy won't eat

brak Apr 05, 2004 03:42 PM

I am concerned about my lizard lately. She has always been a good eater with a really thick tail. about a week & a half ago her eating trailed off, then she shed. I figured that maybe her body knows she is about to eat a huge amount of dead skin and sort of saves her appetite by eating less, so I figured, no big deal. For the day after, I figured, well she's just full of skin. But it has been about a week now and she still isn't eating. What to do?

Other odd things that someone else may have experienced:
* After this last shed she has some dark splotches that were never there before. She is kind of hypo (her body spots and stripes have become less noticable with each shed until lately they are almost completely gone). But now she has these new splotchy type, almost brown marks on her otherwise pure yellow legs and back/neck area.
* She used to poop in the same corner every day, now she is pooping irregularly (because of the barely eating) and it is everywhere (opposite corner, middle of the enclosure, top of the hide).
* She has not gone in her hide for more than two weeks (she used to spend most of her time in her hide. Most of the time she walks around staring up at the top of the tank or trying to climb the walls, like she wants out, wierd. Now she won't go in the hides and even when she is sleeping it is just out in the open.

Could it be something as simple as a change of environment? A few wekks ago I took out this big fake wood thing that was a loose hide and replaced it with a smaller more hide-ish hide so she would have two really enclosed hides. she slept in this new hide a few times and was eating then, so I figured it was fine, but now I wonder if she misses her old fake tree thing.

I'm worried, especially about the not eating thing.

Any advice - other than the no brainer "take her to the vet" - would be appreciated. I will take her to the vet if I don't get any helpful replies here.

Thank you.

Hi

What is the new hide, plastic, stone, wood etc. ?.

Another idea, leave her new hide in there, but put that plastic wood hide back in there and see what she does after a couple days, like if she goe's back to her old ways of eating and bathrooming etc.

The new hide is this plastic fake rock looking stuf, I got it at petsmart. It says it is made for lizards and is specially treated, etc. to be safe for them.

The just isn't enough room for all of it, the old fake wood thing was big...took up almost half the tank. And it had all these legs..since the bottom of the tank is lined with mostly flat rocks and calcisand filling in the gaps, the bottom is not really flat so crickets would get under the legs and hide from the lizard. That's why I didn't like the fake wood thing, but maybe I should put it back in anyway.

Thank you for the reply...
