shaking and twitching

gyke Apr 05, 2004 06:12 PM

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I hve had my male chinese water dragon for about a year and a half. Up until about two weeks ago he has been completely healthy. All of a sudden he developed a large bump uunder the skin under one of his eyes. It grew for a few days and then started to shrink. It is almost gone but now he has started shaking and twitching. The muscles in his legs and feet are always twitching but it seems worse at night. He also seems much jumpier than normal. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have a UVB light? Twitching can be a sign of MBD. Whatever it is, he needs to see a vet. Did you maybe spray something toxic in the room or something?

Of course you HAVE to see a vet ASAP.
With respect to the twitching: very often this is a symptome of an acute vitamien B1 deficiency. Even though 1 to 2 shots often abolish the problem, you have to search for the reason behind it, because its in most cases stress related.

Hope that helps

He has always had a uvb light and eats a diet mainly of large fuzzies. Nothing at all has changed in the way I take care of him. There is nothing knew that could cause him to become stressed. How would you go about giving him more B1? Thanks.

Mainly large fuzzies is not a good diet. There is high risk of liver failure in the long run! Your vet may give B1 as a shot.
BTW: What supplements do you give? How is the animal housed?
