Tokay's Belly Coloration

antonm Apr 05, 2004 10:19 PM

I have noticed that on the first tokay I bought, not only are the overall colors more vibrant but its belly is covered with red dots just like the rest of his body. These dots seem to be absent from the friend I bought it. If anyone knows the reason for this let me know (Ingo I'm looking at you).

Thats intersting.
So far ALL Tokays I have ever seen did have red belly dots. Some juvies start with very few and sometimes a completely dot-free central belly region, but as they mature they all develop dots and normally even hatchlings at least have some dottings at the laterla regions of their underside.
Anyhow, since there is such variation, a dot free animal may still fall within the normal variation. But I´d like to see pics of the animal in question-and not just belly pics

Hmm thats strange because most that I have seen have NO dots instead of many bright dots. I'll try and get a pic when its sitting on the glass.

My pair both have the red dots on their undersides.

Here are the pictures of my two tokays. You can see from these that the amount of red dots is drastically different. It would be appreciated if somebody could point out the sex on both.

Looks like two males.
I have never seen an adult with fewer belly spots than the second animal, but I think thats still within the normal variation
