does 84 degree incubation give u a random assortment???

restlesswind444 Apr 05, 2004 10:29 PM

does 84 degree incubation give u a random assortment of males and females? what is the IDEAL for 50/50, i know its like 84 but someone please tell me if 83 or 85 is better, even if its like 84.5 thats the best, i have a cooler incubator and it is awesome control over temps!!! i'll attach the pic, for ur reference i use a tronic i think 15/25 watt aquarium heater, whatever does a 10-15 gal aquarium, there is a rock to disperse heat evenly and i now have 3 cups w/ 9 fertile eggs heheh...what are ur thoughts on cooler incubators? i hear hovabators fluctuate, mine has a .X degree digi thermometer with probe burried in the vermiculite and it fluctuates like .2 plus or minus degrees, pretty good eh? i think cooler incubators get a bad rap even tho they control temps better than hova's anyway my cooler incubator rocks!!!
hahah sorry kids, im bored
hope everyones season is going well, my first ever is going just fine
peace,
chris
by the way those deli cups are like 10'' tall filled half with stone/gravel and half w/ moist vermiculite, as u can see im experimenting with grain sizes of vermiculite

Try about 85 to 86.

That looks really cool. I didn't think you could immerse the aquarium heater completely in the water though. Thats cool.

If it is a submersible heater then you are all good. I use that in the turtle tank in the cooler months. If it is simply an over the tank (hanging) heater then it is toast. Those are destroyed when water gets in, plus it is a saftey hazard. I wouldn't even trying sealing one of those, not to mention the submersible costs the same amount and usually has a warranty. If you buy all your heaters at Pet Smart and buy their brand (don't worry about the price) you will have lifetime warranty. A buddy of mine just continues to swap for a new one whenever his breaks. Not bad, buy one, and get them for life.
