Early stages of shell rot ?

Sharie Apr 05, 2004 10:52 PM

I was "bathing" my turtle yesterday and I noticed two tiny white spots on his top shell near his tail. They aren't really visible when he is dry. They are very small, and not soft from what I can tell. When he is wet they are the same colour as the spaces of new growth between the scutes. I am wondering if these mystery spots just popped up because he recently began growing again and that top layer of scute is going to fall off. I checked everywhere else on him and there is no other spots. Can someone tell me what this is ? He's never had any problems before. Could it be that he is missing something from his diet ? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes they bump things in the tank and it leaves a mark. Or, he could be going to shed that scute. If you post a pic I am sure people could be able to tell you what it is.

I wish I could. I don't have a digital camera, but I'll see what I can do. It's been a couple days and it's not getting any worse.
