Woah, I found something cool this morning.

Not a baby gecko since I only have 1 juvi female. However I found my first beetle for my mealworm colony (2 more tonight too). I was pretty excited since I have never bred anything before.

I thought it was cool the first time i got a colony up and running...being able to breed mealworms successfully was cool. My father, however, wasn't as thrilled as i was. He ates bugs in the house He was even more uptight about me bringing in superworms....bad enough to have worms, but HUGE ones hehe, he didn't like that.

Heh, ya my mom isnt too thrilled about my colony. I notice tiny tiny mealies early last week, and I was just about ready to post on here why my colony is failing, but sure enough, I finda few little guys. Now I must have 200 beetles that wont die, which isn't a problem to me. I guess I take gret care of them. I have to move them into a new container today and I'm not so sure how I'm going to manage that one. I used to refigerate my worms, but a lot ended up dead, I think it's easier to keep them at room temperature and let them do their thing. Good luck.

Ya i lost a few thousand worms in the fridge....not something i do anymore. Instead i bought a three plastic drawer unit and keep the varying sizes in their specific drawer. Its cool cause yesterday i put some potato slices into the bins and a little while later turned one over in the *baby worm* drawer. They are still very small but on the underside of the slice i could see lots of them. In order to move my beetles from one box to another (i alternate between two boxes-oh and these have lids, i don't trust the beetles in just the drawers LOL) i put in a moist papertowel. They all pile onto it as its a water source and then i just pick it up and put it in the other box. The stragglers who insist on being difficult lol, i just pick up with my fingers...i'm not scared of picking up the beetles or the worms anymore

Ya I broke out of my fear for worms and bettles since I got the leos. When putting down a moist paper towel, that would pick up some of the bedding, hence picking up some of the eggs... no? I used moist paper towel last switch and itworked well, just was curious about the eggs.

The eggs are impossible to see so i can't say for sure, but i would think that they lay the eggs further into the bedding, hopefully not just on top so there would be little chance of picking them up. To be honest that never crossed my mind hehehe.

Ok. and in the big scheme of things, even if I loose 100 eggs, thats almost insignificant to the amount that I saved.
