Nail polish painted on boxie's shell? Proper weight for adult? (thanks...)

Sohni Apr 05, 2004 11:23 PM

I picked up the neglected 3 toed male this afternoon. For now he's set up in a large Rubbermaid with a heat lamp and Reptisun 5.0, moist bed-a-beast, a water dish large enough to sit in, and a hide. I gave him a nice long soak, too, as I'm sure he must be dehydrated.

While I was examining him during his soak, I noticed that he had something that looked like clear nail polish with glitter in it on his shell. I think it must be wearing off, because it's not that noticeable, but is this likely to have caused him any harm? I assume I should just leave it to wear off on its own.

Last question for now, promise! He measures 5" SCL and weighs 357g. Is this an appropriate weight for his size?

Thanks so much!

Nail polish is very bad for a turtle! If there is only a little bit on there it should be ok, but if the whole shell is painted that is very bad, it could kill him. Try and get as much off as you can.

I'm not certain it's nail polish, but it's clear with some glitter, so I don't know what else it could be. How do I get it off?

I bet fingernail polish remover would get that stuff of his shell. I have used it many times to take paint off of their shells. Of course be sure about not getting any on the head area, and rinse the turtle off very well afterwards. good luck, ian
