I was wondering what a gecko might sound like (since mine is so quiet) and came across this one described as a baby gecko breaking out of its egg. Has anyone heard similar sounds from their hatchlings? Would adult geckos sound a little different?

I have an idea for you, why don't you grab one of your females and let her listen to this sound and see what she does.

That's an interesting idea, I'll have to boost the sound a little but maybe she'll respond.

I recorded this from my first hatchlings back in 1999. You can get the complete recording, unedited, from my website at http://www.herpcam.com/downloads.htm. It was not recorded while they were hatching; it was from inside their cage when they were a little excited. Many hatchlings scream when they're startled, and stand up tall and lunge at your fingers or whatever else is in thier area. Adults don't make these noises. The best I've ever heard from adults is hissing from one of my adult fattails.

If you select the "Audio" tab, then page down to "Leopard Gecko", there's a 'GO' button that references your site. It's titled "Hatchling Leopard Gecko Scream". I guess your geckos are famous, at least on the web

That’s a pretty common sound for a hatchling to make. I’d guess it’s how they startle potential predators in the wild (I know hearing such a little leo make such a racket has startled me before). Some of the little one’s I had last year would scream at me just for walking by their cage, but it didn’t last long. The adults may not make much if any vocal noise from my experience. I’ve known a few adults to make gurgling noised when they are unhappy, but nothing like the hatchlings. Maybe someone else has a good story of the strange noises their adults make...

I've had mine click at something before. At least i think it was my geckos... since nothing else was around...

It was like a snap click but a vocal click...like empty like... weird though..

As dave well knows, hippo the big male i got from him gurgles/purrs at me when he is happy, angry, or just when i pick him up. Its pretty funny to hear and really surprises my friends to hear it.

I grew up in the Central Pacific and geckos are noisy little guys. The weird part about them, is that many people hear them all the time and never knew they were a gecko. If you ask these people they just thought it was some tropical bird. Geckos are definitely unique in the vocal realm.

Well I'm not sure how I would go about getting a sound clip but I'll describe it as best I can. One of my biggest girls, probably my favorite one in fact, doesn't like to be held. She loves to walk on you and wander around, but if you close your hand around her she makes a very distinct noise. Now how do I explain it! Lol it's not hissing at all, maybe they grow out of that. But aww poo I can even make the noise myself but have no idea how to record it. But that will be my mission today. Okay so this post was useless since I can't describe the stupid noise! Have you ever heard someone try to mimick donald duck, but they really suck and just make the weird sounds instead? That's about as close to a explination as I can get, I'll try to get my microphone to work for me and post it later. Bye now!

I'd love to hear it if you can record it. I just posted above that my girl finally made some noise, it was like a very quiet chirping sound after she got done shedding and I was inspecting her in my hand to make sure all her skin had come off. I guess she was exhausted after all her hard work and just wanted to rest so she let me know.

Was checkin on my girls in there new enclosure. I have them on the top shelf where they will have the most warm air, along with the UTH under their tank. I was slowly moving up to peek at them and when I got eye level with the tank, my eyes locked with the little circle back. She stared for a whole second and then it was like one of those wind up mice, she went screaming all the way back to the far hide, man was she fast.

I will NEVER forget the first time I heard this sound! It scared the you-know-what out of me... out of nowhere, this little tiny leo opened it's mouth and let out his blood-curdling sound! I am still amazed that such a small creature could be that loud and have that much lung power. It reminds me of the movie 'Alien' when that horrible thing popped out of that guys stomach and let out that aweful scream!!!
