Bullfrog breeding...is it possible?

JadeFox Apr 06, 2004 12:39 AM

Has anybody had any success doing this?

Maybe I should get a pond put in the back yard and somehow build it so the bullfrog (plus get a female) cannot get out and let them breed all they want. that way I get to hear dozens of them make such pretty sounds!

I just love the sound of my bullfrog so much I would love to hear a chorus of them!

I love my bullfrog! I hear him every single day. Odd he makes sounds everyday at noon. and once again every evening.

The only problem I would foresee, is escaping bullfrogs. Bullfrogs were not native to areas like Florida, but they got there due to humans, and now they eat up native frogs. If you live in an area where bullfrogs are not naturally native, I'd definately not breed them outdoors!

And humans are supposed to be the world's most intelligent, civilized, and refined species, eh? Have you ever been in a crowded discount store?

It doesen't take much to get a good Bull Frog population going. I once purchased some tadpoles for my outdoor pond and during that summer they bred like crazy. It would be pretty hard to keep them in the pond area, since Bull Frogs are excellent jumpers, you might lose the two of them (unless you are considering cageing in the whole pond). I would be very cautious breeding them because Bull Frogs can become a pest if their is to many of them in large groups. Not only would they start competing with wild species, they might wake your neighbors up at night
