Can You HAve Too Big Of A Cage????

imortaldragon Apr 06, 2004 03:59 AM

I just recently adopted a 9'7" Burm and I built my own cage...The dementions are 10 foot long by 5 foot wide and 4 foot tall... I was wondering if this could be too big for him. When he is used to a Cage that is 2 foot wide by 6 foot long and 4 foot tall.

I don't think the cage that you built is too big for your new snake. I try to give my snakes the biggest cage I can afford. Right now, my 11 foot male (my only big snake) is in what I call a snake condo -- it's big section of a 12x12 building framed and screened in with a walk-in door. He has all the room he needs. It's 12 feet long, 8 feet tall and 3 feet wide. He ate his first meal since being in the big cage Saturday, and I found him stretched out this morning under his night light. He could never do that in his previous enclosure.

I say give 'em as big a cage as you can afford and is practical for your living arrangements. Just make sure the snake has enough room. I've seen far too many big snakes kept in tiny enclosures.

I'm planning on posting some photos of the building and the cage and snake when I get home this afternoon.

I agree with as much room but make sure he's got a place to get away and be alone and read or something.
