Leopard torts. hatching with extra scutes---pics.

rodmalm Apr 06, 2004 05:46 AM

I finally started hatching Leopard torts. So far, 6 have hatched and 3 of those have one to two extra scutes.

They are all doing great--growing well and very active.

Here's the first one to hatch--perfect.

Here are two babies together, the left one has an extra scute.

And here is the same pic with extra scute outlined, so you can see what I am talking about.

Any idea what caused this? (I know high incubator temps. are resposible for deformities in many herps., and I have been incubating them at 86, as all the books I have read recommend.)

Hopefully I can correct this problem this year. Anyone have a solution to this problem?

Thanks,
Rodney

when I upload photos to webshots.com, and then link those photos URLs on to a kingsnake post. The images appear fine when I preview the post, and in the submitted post for a couple of hours, and then the links no longer work correctly (box with an X in it)? It almost seems like webshots is doing something to cause this (like maybe moving the URLs to a different address so kingsnake can no longer find them?).

Here are the links to the URLs, when I uploaded the photos to kingsnake's photo hosting area instead of webshots. I hope these ones keep working.

Perfect baby

A baby with an extra scute nest to a perfect baby.

The same picture with the extra scute outlined so you can see what I am talking about.

Another one just hatched this morning, and fortunately, this one is another perfect one.

Thanks,
Rodney

Your pics are showing up now. Sorry I can't help you out with the extra scute issue, but your babies are beautiful, even with an "added bonus" scute!
