Sad morning...

tokay_dude1 Apr 06, 2004 06:34 AM

well...i go in to check up on my normal gravid female Phoebe...shes laying her eggs...she has one egg half way out..
so i go back into my living room to watch some TV and go back in an hour later only to find her dead with that one egg still in her....why would this happen? my guess is that she was a little to young to lay eggs..i didnt even breed her..so that means she was gravid befor i got her...it would be 5 weeks today since i first noticed that she was gravid...i did manage to get both eggs out...both are VERY white but soft hopefully they'll plump up so that her lagacy will live on...she was a character...im gonna miss her...

It's always sad to lose a pet... Some people say that they are just animal but i think they are a little more than that to us.

So sorry about Phoebe, Danny. I hope you can save her babies so like you said, part of her will live on. Take care.

Tokay I am so sorry for your sudden loss. So sad I have my fingers crossed for you that her eggs hatch.

Where did you get her from? I don't know much about breeding but if I were you I would have a little "chit chat" with who ever sold her to me.

Sorry a bit off topic, but on a positive note. I just checked out your picture gallery, AMAZING!!! you have wonderful skills, in both photography and sketching.

I'm so sorry... I can't begin to imagine if that happened to any of my leos...

Why on earth would that happen?

Thanks guys..i dont have any idea why this would happen either..i've never even heard of this happening...i am going to call the guy who gave her to me today...and have a "small" talk with him...heh...small..yeah right...i hope these eggs are fertile...but right now im not sure..they are really white...but soft...can this be because they are new..and need time to plump up?..

aliceinwl Apr 06, 2004 07:54 PM

Freshly laid fertile eggs are very soft, almost mushy, but full. They are not dented and half full looking like a dud. It takes some time for them to firm up.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss man. I recently just lost another one of my bibrons (i'm filing a complaint to the BBB against RMS aquaculture). I can't believe what happened to your leo tho, that's really upsetting. I hope you're alright man.

What a tragedy. I really feel for your loss! I have not heard of this happening to a gecko this far along in the laying process, and she appeared to be very healthy in the photo. My thoughts are with you, and I hope the eggs are viable.

That's so aweful! I get so excited when I find one of my girls laying, checking later to find her dead would be heart breaking. I really hope her eggs are fertile.
