Thanks Rich. First, I must tell you......it's all the camera....well and the snakes. I don't really do anything elaborate to take pics. I have an OLD Sony Cybershot DSC-S30. I've had it for 3+ years, and it was a closeout when I got it.....if that tells you anything. If you want to spend the money on a good digital camera, try any of the Nikon cameras. They are more for the professional or hobby photographer and are a little more complicated to use. My next suggestion would be just about any Sony product. They just came out with an 8.1 mega pixel that is awesome.......mine is 1.3 MP. They drop in price pretty quick, and last years $1K model is around $600 now. My best advice is to check out Best Buy or a similar electronics store and play with what they've got.
As for taking accurate pics......try outdoor diffused natural light. Overcast days are great for getting accurate color representation. For indoor, I used diffused light from a window. Make sure the light isn't too bright, or it will sometimes wash out the color of the animals. Good luck with the pics.
