hello,
You do have a very nice looking tangerine hondo there. Its what most call a wide banded pattern with a sockhead-(a name thats used most with pueblans, but I've seen hondos witht hat wide badn behind the neck called sockhead). Its not all that rare, just a very nice one. Heres a pic of one similar-(this one is semi-aberrant too and this pic is about a year old now, shes much bigger and hasnt developed too much tipping either, I'll try to get a new pic of her and post it). Thanks for sharing your pic, its a very nice hondo, good luck with it.

Cool! I have a tangerine dream hondo also. He's 9 months old now and smaller then yours. This website has some info milksnakes. I named mine 'Zorro'

be aware some people (myself included) would argue that the pic of the tangerine honduran on the site is a tricolor and not a tangerine. And i'd take issue with the site's recommendation of nighttime temps of 67 to 72. I don't know of anyone who would recommend letting their hondos get below 70 at night. So take what you read there with a healthy dose of skepticism. I just gave it a quick glance, so there may be other content of considerable value there, but from what i saw it's at best inconsistent.

I have my doubts on the photo too when I first saw it. Does not look like a tangerine. It has some info on milk snakes though and other reptiles. I don't let my night temps get into the 60's either.

I went to this website and noticed it said, and I quote "Full spectrum lighting is important for your milksnakes well being and its long-term maintenance."

What is this crap? Is it true? I have no lighting on mine and keep them at around 80. Am I wrong or is this statement on that site wrong?

I was always under the impression that full spectrum lighting added stress to the reptile?

Please let me know,
Jason

I just looked (very briefly) at that website again. It says Hondurans:

"...are egg layers, and will lay up to 24 eggs that hatch in about 10 weeks.  The hatchlings are only about four inches long!"

This reinforces why i said to be skeptical about what you read at that site: I've never had a Honduran lay more than 13 or so eggs, never heard of one laying more than 15 (in a clutch, though i've had females lay two clutches in a season totaling 22 eggs. I don't think that's what the site was referring to).

And four-inch hatchlings? I don't think so! At a minimum, they're two or three times that size. At a minimum.

Reader beware.

Don't get down on me. I don't make the web sites!!!

janome Apr 08, 2004 08:08 AM

Do YOU know of a good web site on tangerine hondurans???

janome Apr 08, 2004 08:26 AM

I am not a breeder. I don't plan on breeding. My snakes are just pets. So how am I, or other pet owners, to know what's right and whats wrong if all I/we have to go by are books and web sites. I have posted a few questions on these sites with no responses. So sometimes all we have to go by is what we read or the info we find out. Or by each others experiences here on these forums. I don't go by one site or one paticular piece of information. You breeders don't seem to understand that. I think if the information on a paticular web site is incorrect then why don't you writ them and tell them.

rtdunham Apr 08, 2004 08:45 PM

you have misunderstood my comments. I was finding no fault with you for listing the site, just trying to give a heads up to you and others who might see it, that some of the info in it was questionable or worse. I didn't mean to suggest you did anything wrong, sorry if you thought that.

Yes, I took your comments personal. But if you were in my place you might of thought the same way. It's just hard when your a pet owner trying to find info on your pets. Esp snakes. I haven't found very much info on tangerine hondurans. The post down says you have a website. I would like to check it out. Also when do hondurans calm down? Mine is still very wiggly. He was hatched in 7-03. And do they all hide 24/7? The only time I've seen him out was when I had him in a 10 gallon tank and he kept trying to escape. He's in a 20 now and is doing good. Thanks, Jean

I think you took Terry's comments all wrong, he was just trying to let everyone know about being careful what you read on the internet. Furthermore, if you want good info on Hondos especially, I'd argue that most of the time you don't need to look further than him. Check out his website, if you want to see a website, it'd be tough to find a finer collection of animals. The forum is here for info, that's what he was giving, don't worry, it wasn't meant at all personal.

You are right in saying that I took Terri's replys personal. But if you were/are a pet owner like me you might of thought the same way. What is Terri's website? I would like to check it out. Also when do honduran's calm down? Mine is still very wiggly when I pick him up. He was hatched in 7-03. I try to handle him few times a week except after feeding. Thanks.

I have seen this to many times everyone gets bent out of shape for no reason. Don't beleave everything you read or hear.

My hondo looks much like yours but with a little more black tipping to the scales. I have found that milk snakes are always a bit more "jumpy" compared to other snakes.

good luck
