OK, need opinions . Pondering Beanie's situation

Linda G Apr 06, 2004 01:13 PM

Well, it is fast approaching 1 year since Beanie has stopped
eating on her own. There has been a few changes in her.

She does now pretend to eat or eats a couple of bites every
few days. I still am syringe feeding 2 days on and 1 day
off. She will consume about 60-80 cc with each of my feedings.
The thing is, she never gains any weight. She is very small
boned and is just over 3 feet in length and weighs only 2.8 lbs.
When she had the surgery (she was full of eggs) she only
weighed 3.2 pounds. I am beginning to wonder if maybe this
is normal for her. She is active, shedding and growing and
other than being thin, looks great.

Do you think that maybe I need to stop and watch her weight?
She will be having blood work again in a few months just as
a precaution.

What do you guys think? I have yet to find an Ig her age, build
and size to see what her weight is. I also cannot seem to get
an answer on what she should weigh at this size

Thanks in advance.
Linda

if it was me i would stop hand feeding her for around a week and see what happens. in the week of you not feeding her try and count out what you are putting in her dish. that way yuou will eb able to see if she is eating. even if she doesnt eat in that week it wont do anything to her. the only thing i would do is give her water once a day to stop dehydration. my igg went about a week and a half without eating. and the day he was supposed to go to the vet he ate everything in his bowl.

Thanks!

Dehydration luckily has not been a problem because she
drinks freely from a water dish. I just can't figure out
the eating thing.

TRY FEEDING HER JUICE FROM GREENS, IF SHE DRINKS IT THAN SHE WILL GET SOME VITAMINS...oops, caps lock was on!

Heya Linda, has it really been so long?? Time flies! I'd say she's doing well if she has maintained her weight as well as she has, but at some point she's going to have to start eating on her own. Maybe try some of the old things again? Its a big step forwards that she'll pick at things on her own, she may just decide to actually eat on her own if she gets hungry! Good luck and keep posting
