I JUST DONT KNOW

JIM240 Apr 06, 2004 04:45 PM

i don't know if my girl Kora is going to lay or not. she looks pretty fat. she has curves on the bottom of her stomach. she's been eating less, too. yesterday, one cricket, today one cricket, and they were in there a while before she ate them. is it time? i'm not ready for it at all. i don't have bricks to make a "nest" and i don't have the plants that are vercumalute and perlite i think. i'm not ready, and it's hard for me to get ready for this. i'm really nervous that it will be like tomorrow and i find the eggs like rotting. well, i don't know where to get a brick. i can't just ask someone for a brick, thats kind of weird. if i have to, i'll do it, but if there's an easier way, please tell. MIKE

hey there
i am going to be a first time egg hatcher too and it is pretty scary, but do not freak out too much, it only makes things worse. do you have a home depot near you? or a lowes? these types of stores have home improvement stuff and garden centers so you would probably be able to get the bricks and vermiculite all in one stop. and just so you know the vermiculite is not a plant, it is a type of soil. keep up the good work.

im by far not an expert, only kept collareds for a couple of years now,and i still do stuff that makes me wanna kick myself in the head (and i can do it 2).But seriously though,i wouldnt worry too much about the eggs,it sounds cruel but if it's too much then why not just discard the eggs,no-one says you have to hatch them and right now maybe you could without the added stress?Eggs are good, babies are good, but hatching them is a real pain in the royal a55!just my very amateur 0.02 cents
oh and the names Jason or J or sometimes peeps call me *&*$£&&^*

I can kick myself in the head too LOL. I'm not expert either...I just play one on TV.

don't worry too much about those eggs, like Jason said. No big deal. If you want to try something without the bricks, just pile up sand about 4" deep on one end, and keep it a bit darker on that end. You can put something on that end for her to crawl under that will not hurt her, like a piece of cardboard that you rip from a cardboard box or something.

For incubating the eggs, just use some slightly damped sand...don't worry if you don't have vermiculite. E-mail me your address, and I'll send you a deli cup with some in it if you want... eddington@admworld.com

You can do it DUDE!!! Don't worry...if it doesn't work...you tried. Heck I've had he worst luck with lizards this year...I'm still trying :O

But as I would say RELAX !! All will be fine.

If you don't have bricks, use something you do have, make due !

you can use a shoebox, cut a big enough hole in the end or in the middle that she can enter, as a doorway !

Leave lid on, put damp sand inside, it will hold up ! Show her a few times, put her in the hole, until she goes in and out herself.

I will send you a container of vermiculite, IF you call me, so I can get your address ! I dont think i had yours , your Dad had mine !

Call me tomorrow, I'll be here, I will send the vermiculite as soon as I have your address.

As far as you NOT having an incubator, well do what Will Wells suggests, get a plastic type container, like the size of a shoe box, cut a hole in the lid the size of a quarter for air.

Have the damp vermiculite in the box, put eggs on the vermiculite. Put box somewhere that stays between 72 and 90, probably right in you bedroom, maybe !! Check box of eggs every so often make sure the vermiculite stays damp.

Can you do that?
