Wierd root taking over my substrate, got any ideas?

rc_racer_007 Apr 06, 2004 04:49 PM

Hey yall, I have had my tank up and running for about 9 months now. Over the past month this weird root has appeared and its taking over my soil. You can see exactly what i mean by checking the pictures. And its leaving a orange gell type liquid. Almost like sap from a pine tree. Any ideas? Its peaking up through the moss in spots. I dought itll harm the frogs but it may end up taking over the entire tank.

Any ideas?

This is the sap i am talking about. The orange stuff in the pic.

I could be wrong, but it looks like it could be a fungus too.

It looks like it could be mycelium, (the pre fruiting stage of mushrooms) but i'm not positive.

I agree - probably mycelium. especially if that is a mushroom stalk in the second picture.

yes, very large mushrooms have been sprouting lately. So it wont harm the plants or the occupants correct?

Won't hurt anything. In fact, mycorrhizal fungi are quite beneficial for your plants - read the link below.
