Mali losing tip of her tail

uropat Apr 06, 2004 06:12 PM

Both of my malis have were recently seperated for fighting (I think that they must both be males) Bruno, the larger one helped me make the decision to move them by crushing the tip of mollies tail. Now, about a month after this event, the tip of her tail has started drying out and is starting to come off. I konw there is no way to reverse this as it is already half off, but is there anithing I can do to make it easier for her to lose it, and to stop more of her tail from falling off? I can tell what part of the tail is sorta dead or dying because it is white from there on. Is there anithing I need to do after the dried out part falls off? Please help because it seems like it will happen next time she whips something with it.

Thanks to anione that helps

Pat

I had this happen to a young mali about a year ago. Keep the lizard on paper towel (or similar) substrate, and keep the wound clean(betadine & neosporin). If it seems to be infected, you need to get to a vet ASAP. Signs of infection would be the wound not starting to scab and it will sort of ooze. If you keep it clean it should heal over just fine and he will be a uro missing part of his tail. Also, if the tail is dead and she doesnt fell anything when you put pressure on it , you might want to trim it off and just leave the area next to the break attatched. The only reason for this would be to cut back on the possibility of infection. But if you are really worried just take him to the vet and have it bandaged up.

I'm not too worried about him, I just wanted to make sure that i was doing everything right, only think I need to change is to get him on paper towels, the only problem with that is that his claws will definitely get stuck on them. But I guess if thats what I have to do to help him, and I'll do it.
