Hello,
Carefresh bedding works well for snakes, but I tend to use it only for my snakes that like to borrow. I use it in combination with newspapers for my savu python.

It's great stuff, but it gets pretty nasty if it's wet. If you can keep your humidity ok it's great for snakes, my vet says it has a low impaction risk
Carefresh works great. Easy to clean. Not too cheap tho. Gotta get mine from Petco tho. Hate givin them my money. But to use Carefresh, you really need good air circulation or you'll see condensation on the sides of the cage and that will start growing mold on the carefresh, usually in the form of hair. I need to get a fan and some hoses so I can increase air circulation in my cages. Plain old air holes don't work too well with my rubbermaid cages. They don't even seal at the lid (but they do lock). Carefresh is good for most non-aquatic snakes because the burrowers can burrow, and the terrestrials can lay on it and it compacts down almost like a carpet. That's when it's easy to clean because you can pick up the fudge and the surrounding substrate at the same time. Then just patch it up with more Carefresh.
What substrate method have you adopted?
Josh
