I lost my Turtle!HELP!

Kerry04 Apr 06, 2004 06:37 PM

I am the proud owner of two RES hatchlings (about 2 months old) named Theresa and JFK.They are both about the size of a half dollar. Since JFK was eating all the food and Theresa was not getting any, I started separating them when they eat.
So today I take JFK out of the tank for a feed, and the phone rings. SO I put him down for a second on the floor and when I came back 2 seconds later he was GONE. I am pretty sure he is still in the spare bedroom because the door was shut, but what if he crawled under the door and is roaming around?
Anyone have any ideas on how to coax this little Democrat out of hiding?
Also, I live in a really old apartment(it's an old victorian). Although I have not seen any in a while, occassionally there have been mice. What are his chances of being eaten or mauled if a mouse finds him?
I have torn my place up looking for my little front runner, but I can't find him. HELP!

~ first... i would advise everyone to NEVER leave these turtles out of your sight... they are like children, there one second and gone the next!
~ second... i have seen some messages here that people have lost their turtles. no one has ever said that there is a way to coax the turtle out of hiding, so i dont think that there is a way to get the little critter out of his hiding spot. though the good thing is that they can survive a long time without food, which should give you some hope and buy you some time to find him. as far as the mice... i have no clue if a mouse would eat a turtle, but i would imagine it would try if it could! i am gonna say that your best bet is to keep searching! like they say "things are always the last place you look" but then again, why wouldnt they be!?! after you find what you're looking for you quite looking!
~ hope this helps!

I have had this happen before and the first thing you need to do is look in the corners, then under any furniture (especially beds) if you still can not find him try turning off the lights and listen very carefully sometimes the little guys will want to move around when it is dark. I hope this helps, and good luck.
P.S.- Watch your step!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kerry, did you find your turtle yet? I did hear a story about a turtle that was missing for four months, it was found in a closet and was just fine...check the closet.
