I just saw my male leopard gecko licking the underside of his tail at the base. (he is about 2-3 months old) He did it twice. He lifts his tail up and tries to lick underneath, where the slit is. For a moment I saw a little red protrude out, then it went back in and he eventually stopped. Is this something to be worried about?

The red thing you saw was his hemi penis...he is just matureing and when he licked it he was just cleaning it of...is he in the tank with another gecko?

He is in with a girl of 2-3 months and a girl of 1-2 months. Does this make a difference?

You're going to have to separate the male from the females...he isn't sexually mature yet...but when he is the females won't be large enough to breed yet, and if he remains with them he will mate with them, and their health could be SERIOUSLY compromised...they could even possibly die. I'm not trying to be mean or anything here...I'm just trying to let you know that you're going to have to take the male out and wait till the females are large enough to breed to reintroduce him.

I don't think you're being rude...it's good to want to hear things from multiple people...you may want to post the question in a new thread though so everyone will see it if you want to get as many answers as possible.

I have to agree with Christina. If you have two females that young in with him, as soon as he matures sexually he will try to mate with any and all females regardless of age. And you need to have your girls at least 8 months (safe and healthy age and weight) before you could let them mate. But it is of course your choice.
